W Health Ventures has announced a $70 million second fund focused on launching healthcare startups in India through a venture studio model.

Why it matters: With India’s $370 billion healthcare market undergoing structural shifts, Fund II aims to fill critical gaps by combining clinical expertise, startup infrastructure, and strategic capital.

The details:

  • The fund will back 8-10 startups over four years, helping build and scale healthcare companies from the ground up.
  • W Health specializes in launching category-defining healthcare companies across single-specialty care and AI-led B2B healthcare services.
  • The firm has already begun deploying capital, with EverHope Oncology securing a $10 million day-zero investment, led by Narayana Health.
  • W Health has previously backed startups like Wysa, BeatO, Mylo, and Reveal HealthTech.

India is poised to transform the global healthcare landscape through advancements in artificial intelligence, according to Pankaj Jethwani, Managing Partner at W Health Ventures.

What they’re saying:

  • “India’s biggest contribution to global healthcare will be AI-enabled services that lower costs and improve convenience,” Jethwani highlighted.
  • “The new fund will support early-stage healthcare innovation and selectively back Series A and B companies that align with our thesis,” Jethwani explained.

Jethwani emphasized the challenges faced by legacy healthcare systems in integrating modern AI solutions and the gap in attracting AI talent.

What’s next: W Health’s second fund is seen as a significant boost for early-stage healthcare deals, especially in light of a softened funding environment. The firm also plans to make selective Series B investments, focusing on healthcare businesses targeted at both domestic and international markets.
