The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has updated its travel regulations, adding specific hair tools to the list of items you cannot place in your checked luggage. This change pertains to certain cordless flat irons and curling irons that use butane or gas cartridges. When flying, travelers must adhere to various TSA rules, such as limiting liquids to containers of 3.4 ounces or less and checking in before the scheduled departure.
Now, three additional items have been banned from checked luggage:
1. Curling irons or flat irons that contain gas cartridges
2. Curling irons or flat irons fueled by butane
3.
Spare gas cartridges for curling irons or flat irons
These tools can still be included in carry-on luggage provided they have a safety cover to prevent accidental activation.
TSA bans certain hair tools
Corded flat irons and curling irons remain safe alternatives for traveling.
Features to look for include ceramic plates, quick heat-up times, adjustable heat settings, and cool tips for safety. The Dyson Cordless Straightener and battery-operated curling irons with regulated temperature control are also good options that comply with TSA regulations. It’s important to note that if banned cordless hair tools are found in checked baggage, the luggage will not be confiscated, but you may need to adjust your packing method to comply with TSA rules.
Following TSA guidelines is critical not only to ensure an on-time departure but also to maintain safety for all passengers. Aside from the recent hair tool bans, travelers are often surprised by the array of unique items that are allowed through TSA checkpoints. These include live lobsters in clear containers, Christmas lights, cowboy spurs, toy lightsabers, coffee makers, Magic 8 Balls, sewing machines, and waffle irons.
