Qunova Computing has raised $10 million in a Series A funding round to accelerate the development of its quantum software applications for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and industrial engineering sectors.
Why it matters: The funding and advancements position Qunova well for future growth, driving forward the practical use of quantum computing in industries needing sophisticated computational solutions.
The details:
- Investors participating in the funding round include GS Ventures, Korea Development Bank, GU Equity Partners, Company K, Quantum Ventures Korea, JB Investment, CKD Venture Capital, and Daesung Venture Capital.
- Qunova’s flagship algorithm, HI-VQE, has shown consistent performance across multiple quantum hardware platforms, including IBM’s systems, and was recently added to IBM’s Qiskit functions catalog.
- The HI-VQE algorithm demonstrates strong performance, achieving the computational precision needed for advanced quantum chemistry applications.
- Over the past year, Qunova has showcased the best-in-class capabilities of HI-VQE using various quantum modalities with qubit counts as high as 68.
Qunova is also introducing a new algorithm designed to handle up to 100,000 combinatorial variable optimization solutions on today’s NISQ computers, promising significant applications in multiple industries where complex calculations are critical.
What they’re saying:
- “With the backing of these strategic investors, we will deploy additional capital for the expansion of our world-class team of developers, scientists, and engineers. This will help make our path to quantum advantage even shorter,” said Kevin June-Koo Rhee, Qunova’s CEO and Founder.
- “The progress Qunova has shown of late has been quite impressive. Unlocking the true potential of quantum computing will require further enhancements on the hardware side. However, the innovative approach Qunova has taken with this algorithm helps address these issues by circumventing some hardware challenges, thus bringing quantum advantage closer than ever before,” said Sukhyun Hong, CEO of one of the investing firms.
What’s next: More news regarding Qunova’s progress towards quantum advantage will be available in the second half of 2025.
