Eni Next and Azimut have partnered to create a EUR100 million venture capital fund to support startups and early-stage companies developing breakthrough technologies in energy and sustainability.

Why it matters: The initiative aims to create significant opportunities for innovative projects that align with the goals of energy transition and decarbonization.

The details:

  • The partnership leverages Eni Next’s experience in energy and technology and Azimut’s expertise in global asset management and venture capital.
  • The fund targets investments in emerging technologies to address challenges such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing energy efficiency.
  • The collaboration reflects a growing trend of traditional energy companies partnering with financial firms to foster innovation and facilitate the transition to sustainable energy solutions.

Plenitude, an Italian energy company, has started construction on the Entrenúcleos solar park, a 200 MW photovoltaic project in Andalusia, Spain.

Why it matters: The project underscores Plenitude’s growing commitment to Spain’s renewable energy sector and is expected to generate over 435 GWh of clean electricity annually once operational in 2026.

The details:

  • The solar park spans more than 300 hectares, will house 326,000 solar panels, and is one of the largest renewable projects currently under development in the region.
  • Entrenúcleos is part of Plenitude’s broader portfolio of approximately 580 MW under construction in Andalusia.
  • The project aligns with Spain’s national push to rapidly scale renewable energy capacity, targeting a 74% share of renewables in its electricity mix by 2030.

What they’re saying:

  • “Entrenúcleos is a flagship project for Plenitude,” said Mariangiola Mollicone, Head of Renewable Energy in Western Europe and Managing Director of Plenitude Renewables Spain. “This project not only contributes to our growth objectives in Spain but also underscores our ongoing commitment to Andalusia, a region that plays a key role in Spain’s renewable energy landscape.”
  • “Renewable energies are the oil that Andalusia never had,” said Manuel Larrasa, General Secretary of the region’s Energy Department, highlighting Andalusia’s potential to deliver reliable, low-cost clean energy to support Europe’s decarbonization goals.

What’s next: Plenitude aims to reach 10 gigawatts of installed renewable capacity globally by 2028, with around 1,300 MW of operational solar and wind assets in Spain and a project pipeline exceeding 2 GW across multiple regions.
